The CBD market is expected to grow at a staggering 20 billion dollars by 2024. 1 What is CBD oil and how effective it is? Here are 7 possible health benefits that CBD oil may have.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (short for CBD) is one of more than 200 chemical compounds that can be found in cannabis. Cannabis is a plant. There are two types of cannabis: Cannabis Indica or Cannabis Sativa. While both CBD and marijuana can be made from either of these types, hemp is only made from Cannabis Sativa. To be considered hemp, the hemp must not contain more than 0.3% THC. This is the oil that gives you a high and can be found in marijuana. Otherwise, growers could face federal prosecution.
We will be looking at nine medical conditions in which CBD could be beneficial, or has been proven to be beneficial.
- Epilepsy
The FDA approved EPidiolex, a plant-based CBD formulation, in June 2018 to treat seizures in people aged 2 and older with Dravet and Lennox–Gastaut (LGS) rare forms of epilepsy.
CBD has been studied in the treatment of other forms of epilepsy. Although the results of these trials were not conclusive, they did show that CBD had a significant effect on seizure frequency in people with epilepsy.
Conclusion: CBD can be beneficial in treating certain types of epilepsy.
- Pain
Animal studies have shown that CBD can reduce inflammation and work on the pain-sensing and endocannabinoid systems to relieve pain.
47 patients with multiple sclerosis were surveyed and reported that they experienced improvements in their pain, walking, and muscle spasms after using CBD and THC.
Conclusion: CBD might be helpful in relieving pain, but there are no high-quality human studies to support this.
- Arthritis
The CBD topical application was found to be effective in relieving pain and inflammation caused by arthritis. There were very few side effects. Topical CBD application is advantageous because CBD can be poorly absorbed by the mouth and cause side effects.
Conclusion: Topical CBD might be helpful in relieving arthritis symptoms, but there are no high-quality human trials to support this.
- Anxiety
300mg CBD pretreatment significantly reduced anxiety in 57 healthy men who took a simulated public speaking exam. The men experienced significant anxiety relief after pretreatment with 300mg CBD.
- Depression
Some CBD has been shown to relieve depression in animals. This may be due to its strong antistress effects after repeated or acute administration.
Conclusion: CBD might help with depression, but more studies are needed.
- Sleep disorders
31% of CBD-using people reported better sleep due to CBD. A large series of 72 patients were examined and 48 (66.7%) reported a significant improvement in their sleep scores after the first month. However, these scores fluctuated over time.
Conclusion: CBD appears to not interfere with sleep, and may improve sleep quality.
- Acne
In a laboratory study, CBD was found to prevent human sebocytes from generating too much sebum. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect that stops inflammatory cytokines from activating.
Conclusion:
Topical CBD might help reduce inflammation and excess sebum production that are associated with acne. However, more studies are required. Cannilabs is best option for CBD products and you can visit their store.
