  1. Monocrystalline – Cell efficiency ranges from 15% to 21% and is the most expensive.
  2. Polycrystalline – Cell efficiency is a maximum of 16% and manufacturing it is cheaper. It may need frequent repair.
  3. Amorphous – Cell efficiency is less than 10%. Mostly, used to charge low power electronic gadgets.
  • Wattage 

Wattage unit allows you to get an idea of how much power the panel will produce. More powerful lighting needs means a high wattage panel is needed.

  • Size

Solar panel size depends on the panel material and light capacity.

Fixture and casing

  • Build material 

Aluminum and plastic are two materials used in floodlight casings. Aluminum casings maximize the inner light parts protection against outdoor elements, so are a good option for high-power floodlights. Plastic casings are fine on cheaper floodlights. The plastic housings are durable and can tolerate low and high temperatures. Ensure that the casing is water-proof.

  • IP rating

IP rating will define the protection capability of the fixture when they come in contact with outdoor elements like dust, water, and other moving particles in the environment. The IP rating has two numbers. For example, in IP64 the first number 6 indicates solid object protection level and 4 defines liquid damage protection. Every flood light differs in IP rating.

  • Mounting hardware

It ranges from ground and pole mounted lights to wall mountable units. Ensure that the floodlight you select has the correct mount suitable for the area to be installed.

  • Cable length

The cable connects the fixture and solar panel. Is the supplied cable length sufficient for the considered installation area? Remember that, longer cables will impact the solar panel performance.
